The use of video production in a classroom can be a great method to both teach and assess materials within class. By assigning or allowing students to choose a topic of the video, the students will need to research various aspects of the topic. This research step of the video production will feel less 'academic' and much more approachable to students than the typical classroom research setting. By viewing the video product of the assignment, either with the class, or with just the students involved, the teacher can effectively assess the students' understanding of the concept that they were trying to convey in the video. In this point in time where essentially everyone has a smartphone equipped with camera, editing software, as well as the means to research the internet, all in one device, this type of project is very much manageable. the teachers will not necessarily have to provide a camera, hardware involved in traditional editing etc. As time passes and the technology continues to advance, integrating video projects like this will only become easier and more necessary.
